Northern England 'ideal for a Winter Break'
Destinations in the north of England are perfect for a last-minute break during the winter season, according to a tourism industry spokeswoman.
Jenny McGee, head of strategy and engagement for VisitEngland, identified Cumbria and Yorkshire as "great destinations" to visit during the cold season.
She said that visitors can enjoy a range of experiences, from taking "long walks through stunning countryside" to enjoying hot food and mulled wine in a welcoming pub.
"All of this can be found in the north of England, making it an excellent destination for a last-minute winter break," Ms McGee added.
People who choose cheap hotels in York for their winter break can visit some of the city's famous tourist attractions, such as Minster cathedral and the National Railway Museum.
VisitBritain released a report last month showing that the number of international tourists taking breaks in Britain during the summer increased by three per cent on the same period in 2008.
