Northern Exposure

Northern exposure Anyone planning a trip to Northern Ireland could do little better than plan it for late April and early May, when the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival takes place in Belfast.

Held from April 27th to May 5th, the event sees a wide range of entertainment on show, with organisers promising everything from the cerebral to the slapstick.

At one end of the scale the Open University has a slot for highbrow discussion and lots of poetry, while there is theatre including old favourites like One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest and lesser-known Hippos in the Shower, comedy, music, traditional and visual arts.

This being Belfast, there is also a film about George Best scheduled.

No less than 27 venues in the area host events, from the Waterfront Hall to the Unemployment Resource Centre.

Apart from the festival, the city of Belfast offers plenty in the way of bars, clubs and attractions, including the Titanic trail, tracing the origins of the ship at the Harland and Wolff Shipyard.

Belfast has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
