Portrait Gallery Invites Kids to Get Creative
London's National Portrait Gallery will act as a portal into the world of creative writing for children over the coming months as it launches a new story writing project.
Writing the World begins this year and will continue until 2012, with a different country acting as the focus of the programme each year. In 2008, the children participating in the programme will be taking their inspiration from China.
Brazil, South Africa and India will be the themes in future years, before story-writers focus on London itself in 2012.
People staying in cheap hotels in London can see their children assisted in their writing by leading children's authors who will take part in the scheme.
The winning stories will be performed on the stage of the Polka Theatre as part of a special China Family Day on June 14th.
Younger children participating in the project will be able to create a short illustrated story, with the best examples going on display at the Polka Theatre in London.
