Railway Children Take to the Stage in York

Railway Children take to the stage in York A stage production of the much-loved tale The Railway Children will be presented in York this year.

The Railway Children is a book by Edith Nesbit published in 1906 that has been the subject of several adaptations, including a famous film released in 1971.

People staying in cheap hotels in York will be able to see a theatrical interpretation of the story at the National Railway Museum from July 23rd to September 5th.

The show, which the museum will present in collaboration with the York Theatre Royal, is being shown for a second year following the great success that it enjoyed in 2008, when the Observer described it as "a runaway success".

One of the highlights of the production is the theatre design, with audience members seated on station platforms situated either side of a real railway track.

The story centres on Bobby, Peter and Phyllis, three children in a happy family whose life is changed forever when their father mysteriously disappears and they are forced to move away without him.
