River Festival 'to Be More Exciting Than Ever'

Cheap hotels in Glasgow should be booked soon by anybody hoping to go to the 2008 River Festival, an event which this year has a "new and exciting line-up of entertainment", according to the city's marketing bureau.

The River Festival will take place on Glasgow's holiday weekend, on July 19th and 20th, and will include both water- and land-based events at the Tall Ship in the harbour, the SECC, Glasgow Science Centre and BBC Scotland.

One of the highlights will be a display of jet-skiing by the Jet Sport Racing Association, which will include spectacular routines and daring stunts.

Visitors with an interest in maritime culture and history can set foot aboard the Loth Lorien schooner, two Royal Navy minesweepers or the Jacinta trawler, which serves as a floating museum dedicated to deep-sea fisheries.

On land, there will be a combination of fun and education on offer at the Glasgow Science Centre, as well as Glasgow's first ever beach volleyball tournament.

Bailie Liz Cameron, vice-chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau said: "The Glasgow River Festival has evolved into a wonderful celebration of the River Clyde, which has been at the heart of the city's industrial success and is now home to some of our most exciting entrepreneurial ventures.

"As part of the city's exciting annual programme of cultural events, the festival highlights a number of exhilarating and entertaining ways to enjoy the river."
