Scottish Painters on Exhibit in Edinburgh

Scottish painters on exhibit in Edinburgh Visitors to Edinburgh will be able to learn more about the artistic culture of their destination this year by heading to an exhibition at the city's Modern Art Galleries.

Until June 28th this year, the Dean gallery will present a display of pieces by four Scottish artists of the post-Second World War period – Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, John Bellany, Alan Davie and Anne Redpath.

The work on exhibit, which has been borrowed from the Gallery of Modern Art's permanent collection, shows the impact that all four of these painters had on their own and subsequent generations.

Bellany's paintings often reflected his own experiences, sometimes related to his upbringing in a Scottish fishing village, while Davie's work is influenced by Buddhism and his passion for jazz music.

Barns-Graham was known for abstract creations influenced by natural forms, while Redpath painted interiors and landscapes.

The Modern Art Galleries complex is part of the National Galleries of Scotland institution, which also includes the Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery, two venues people staying in cheap hotels in Edinburgh may also be interested in visiting.
