Tart's the Way to Do It

Tart's the way to do it Visitors to Derbyshire hoping to get to the heart of traditional country life could do a lot worse than visiting the Bakewell Country Show in early August.

Held in the small Peak District town on August 1st and 2nd 2007, the event is held on the showground on the banks of the River Wye.

Although primarily agricultural with a particular appeal to farmers, featuring plenty of prize cattle, the show offers a wide range of gifts, crafts, and food, plus organisers are promising the installation of a beach for the kids to build sandcastles and a guest performance by an eight foot-high robot.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Bakewell can enjoy all this, miles of walks in the surrounding moorland and dales, plus the puddings the village is famous for.

A distinction should be made between the Bakewell pudding, which has light flaky pastry plus jam and the Bakewell Tart, which has thick pastry and icing.

Both are served up with steaming custard in cafes in the town.
