Tate Britain Salutes Genius of William Blake
Art and literature lovers staying in cheap hotels in London this year will find plenty to hold their interest at the Tate Britain.
The gallery will host a free exhibition dedicated to the seminal poet and painter William Blake until June 1st.
This special display opened last year to mark the 250th anniversary of Blake's birth in 1757.
The Tate institution has a strong connection with William Blake, having opened the first ever Blake gallery in the 1920s, and played an important part in presenting his work to international audiences.
Tate Britain owns an extensive permanent collection of Blake's work, which is featured in the exhibition, but the highlights of the display are private loaned pieces that were only discovered recently and have never before been publicly displayed.
As part of the gallery's contribution to the anniversary celebrations, it published a facsimile of Poetical Sketches, Blake's first book of printed poems from 1783 which includes the author's handwritten corrections.
