The Battle of North London

The battle of north London The bitter rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur is one of the longest running in English football and the war to decide north London's number one club will see another skirmish in December.

Festive cheer will not be in plentiful supply when these sides meet three days before Christmas, as Spurs visit the Emirates stadium to try once again to get one over on their local enemies.

Recent clashes between Arsenal and Tottenham have been tightly contested affairs – the fixture at White Hart Lane earlier this season ended in a 2-2 draw and there hasn't been a victory for either side in this contest since November 2004.

That particular game happened to be an absolute cracker, with the Gunners eventually winning 5-4, and if December's match is anything like as exciting spectators will need a comfortable cheap hotel to relax in for the evening.

Spurs have not beaten Arsenal in the league since 1999 and both teams' form so far this season suggests that there will be no change to that fact this year.

The Gunners are flying high – they are yet to lose a game and sit top of the league with 22 points from a possible 24. Spurs, on the other hand, are fourth from bottom and have won just one game in the league this season.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that their fortunes have improved somewhat by Christmas. If not, this game could provide an ideal opportunity to give their season a much-needed kick-start.
