Tourists Retuning to Holidays in Britain

Tourists retuning to holidays in Britain Visitors are continuing to book cheap hotels in Britain thanks to the numerous attractions the country has on offer, it has been claimed.

National tourism agency VisitBritain says that despite the sometimes chilly climate, the country continues to be a popular tourist hotspot.

Sian Brenchley, senior press officer at VisitBritain, said that tourism was Britain’s fifth largest industry, adding that people were drawn to its "history, heritage and culture".

She added that England is a "great place for both domestic and international visitors to holiday".

Ms Brenchley also praised the variety of attractions on offer to tourists from seaside resorts to interesting urban hubs such as York.

Figures show that 32.8 million trips were made to the UK by foreign visitors in the 12 months to March 2008, down one per cent from the previous year’s 33.2 million.

During January to March 2008, the amount of money splashed by foreign visitors to the UK increased by four per cent to £4 billion.
