UK 'now Has Cool Appeal'
Cheap hotels in Manchester, Birmingham and other major UK cities are a popular option as the UK is increasingly being seen as a 'cool' destination, it has been suggested.
According to the United Kingdom Travel Survey, UK residents made 32.9 million overnight trips within their own borders between January and April this year.
Russell Amerasekera, who has written for the Daily Mail and appeared on BBC 1's Holiday programme, said that the UK is becoming "cool" and its major cities can now compete with their global counterparts.
"The major cities in the UK really do stack up against anything that you will get in any other major cities in the world," he said.
"London, Manchester and Birmingham, they all have as much to offer in terms of shopping experience, the nightlife experience, the restaurant experience and culture as well."
According to research carried out by visitbirmingham.com, three quarters of people would rather take breaks with their partners than friends and half consider a stroll around a new city an essential part of a weekend break.
