'Unique' Design Centre to Open in Glasgow
From November 15th, people staying in cheap hotels in Glasgow will be able to visit a new design centre that is billed as unique in Britain, "if not the world".
Che Camille, which will be based on the city's popular Buchanan Street, is the brainchild of 32-year-old New Yorker Camille Lorigo.
Part shop, part workshop and part photography studio, the centre is hoped to be the beginning of a "new chapter" in Glasgow's history as a "shopping Mecca and breeding ground for independent fashion talent".
Ten emerging designers have been offered a one-year residency at Che Camille and they will be showcasing their ready-to-wear collections to Christmas shoppers from November 15th.
Introducing Che Camille, Ms Lorigo said: "It showcases independent design talent from both here and, eventually, abroad, bringing our customers beautifully crafted fashion, accessories, furniture, lighting and textiles that have a timeless appeal."
Councillor Steven Purcell, chair of the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, added: "It is also a tremendous boost to Buchanan Street and its credentials as one of Britains great shopping streets, and will be vitally important in the drive to attract customers to the city in the run up to Christmas and beyond."
The centre will be another big attraction for Glasgow, which was recently listed as one of Lonely Planet's top ten cities to visit in 2009.
