Organisers are seeking for volunteers to take part in the 'line of light', a row of illuminated people spanning the length of Hadrian's Wall.

These volunteer 'illuminators' will be responsible for lighting their spot, 250 metres apart, along the 84 mile long Hadrian's Wall National Trail across Britain.

The first light will shine at Segedunum Roman Fort at Wallsend in the north-east of England and, one after the other, the light will reach Bowness-on-Solway in Cumbria.

Linda Tuttiett, chief executive of Hadrian's Wall Heritage Ltd, said: "It really will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and something we think people will remember for a very long time."

Hadrian's Wall begins at South Shields near Newcastle on the east coast, just one hour on the train from York.

Illuminating Hadrian's Wall will take place on March 13th, as part of British Tourism Week. Visitors to the area who want to take part should register before February 22nd.
