Visitors to North-east England Enjoy Cultural Programme
People who book hotels in York could be among those to enjoy a range of cultural programmes the north-east has to offer throughout the year.
Launching the 2010-11 programme is National Storytelling Week in Newcastle, just one hour from York on the train. Families will be able to enjoy stories on the heritage of the north-east, including what it was like to live while Hadrian's Wall was being built.
Visitors to York for Valentine's might be interested in taking a trip to Newcastle for Chinese New Year celebrations on February 14th, which will feature parades, firecrackers and lion and dragon dances.
Tourists planning a trip in March will have the opportunity to attend the Northern Lights Film Festival in Durham, a 30 minute train journey from York. The festival will highlight local talent in short film making and screen writing.
Other highlights in Durham include tours around the historic city and the Norman cathedral, the largest Norman building in the country.
