Visitors to the North East Should Explore More
People who are booking cheap hotels in York might be interested in travelling further north for a day trip to Northumberland as the region will host lots of events in the coming months.
This comes as travel directory iKnow-UK reported that there had been a 12 per cent rise in visitors to the north-east this year.
Northumberland sees visitors heading to Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick Castle year-round, but Sheelagh Caygill, a spokeswoman from Visit Northumberland has encouraged visitors to stay longer and explore more that the region has to offer.
Ms Caygill said that these sites are what the county is known for. However, she added: "When people come here and they pick up more information they see that there is lots more to see."
She recommended that one of the key events this year will be at the National Trust's Cragside in Morpeth, as it celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lord Armstrong.
Cragside is a Victorian house, built on a rocky crag, with expansive formal and rock gardens.
