Waterlogged Pitch

Waterlogged pitch England can enjoy a game of football with a difference in August.

This month (date to be confirmed) sees Bourton-On-The-Water staging the wettest game around in the annual Football in the River match.

Played on a six-a-side basis with 15 minutes each way, the match takes place between two local sides who stand up to their knees in the waters of the River Windrush, attempting to kick the ball around while simultaneously not being swept away.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels can watch from the banks as the players splash around, probably getting wet along with hundreds of other villagers who turn the event into a major party each year.

The area also offers visitors the chance to relax in some some beautiful countryside which forms a delightful backdrop to this picture-postcard village.
