Wimbledon to Serve Up Another Sporting Spectacle

Wimbledon to serve up another sporting spectacle Sports fans will soon be booking their cheap hotels in London, boning up on their tennis knowledge and buying their umbrellas in anticipation of Wimbledon.

The renowned lawn tennis tournament returns to its famous home at SW19 in a couple of months' time, with the first ball being struck on June 23rd and the trophies being lifted on July 6th.

Wimbledon is one of the four grand slam events in world tennis and regularly attracts around half a million spectators and millions of viewers worldwide.

Visitors this year will be eager to see if the game's world powers continue to dominate or if it is time for some new competitors to show their quality.

Roger Federer won Wimbledon's men's competition for the fifth year in a row in 2007, while Venus Williams lifted the women's trophy for the fourth time in eight years.

Rafael Nadal has made it to the final of the tournament for the past two years, however, and could be ready to go all the way this year, while Justine Henin will want to justify her world number one ranking by winning Wimbledon for the first time.
