York Gallery Looks at Art of St Ives
York Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition this summer that focuses on artwork from the Cornwall town of St Ives.
The display, which people staying in cheap hotels in York will be able to see until September 27th, has been put together to illustrate the vibrant and colourful art scene of St Ives.
It features pieces by artists including Dame Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Alfred Wallis, which have been drawn from the collections of York Art Gallery and the Arts Council.
Speaking earlier this year when the exhibition was announced, York Art Gallery curator Laura Turner said: "For generations, the closely knit groups of painters and ceramicists of St Ives have created brilliant art inspired by the beauty of the Cornish landscape.
"This exhibition will bring together some of the finest examples of this work and look at the relationships and collaborations that sprang up in this hive of creativity."
Visitors can see a total of 21 paintings and drawings, three sculptures and 14 ceramics in the show.
York Art Gallery is also hosting a special exhibition this year focusing on the changing landscape of York, which will be open until July 19th.
