York Launches Exploration of China

York launches exploration of China Many cities and locations around the world are hosting events with a Chinese theme this year, ahead of the country's hosting of the Olympic Games, and the city of York will be no different.

Between March 21st and April 6th, people staying in cheap hotels in York can visit the Chinese Festival at the National Railway Museum (NRM).

There will be plenty of activities to keep adults and children entertained during this period, all infused with the colours, tastes and character of China.

Visitors will have the opportunity to try some tai chi, make a Chinese opera mask and taste some free samples of Chinese tea.

Entry to the entire festival is free and people can turn up on the day for most events, although advance booking is recommended for some days.

The York NRM will be hosting events dedicated to China throughout 2008, including an exhibition exploring the fact that the Asian nation was the last country to build steam locomotives for regular service.

From March 19th until October, the museum will display a photographic record, compiled by railway photographer Michael Rhodes, of working steam in China.
