From July 18th to August 2nd, the centre will be one of the venues hosting the Festival of British Archaeology, which will include a number of different events and promotions.

For the duration of the festival, anyone holding a Young Archaeologists' Club membership card will be offered free admission to all three York Archaeological Trust attractions - Jorvik, DIG and Barley Hall.

A new exhibition will be opening at Barley Hall entitled Plague, Poverty and Prayer, which explores the everyday life of the citizens of York from the time of the Norman invasion of Britain to the Tudor era.

On July 24th, a special tour will take place of the site where the battle of Marston Moor took place, with a guide telling the story of this historically significant event.

Jorvik Viking Centre is home to a wide selection of exhibits offering an insight into Viking life, many of which were found during the Coppergate excavations between 1979 and 1981.
