You Will Be Amused
Visitors to Royal Deeside in summer can hardly fail to notice the strong connections the area has with the monarch since Queen Victoria established here summer home at Balmoral Castle, a fact which is celebrated in the Victoria Week festival in the nearby town of Ballater.
Held from August 5th to 12th 2007, the event includes a wide range of traditional highland entertainment, from the Ballater Highland Games to historical re-enactments of 19th century life, a parade with all kinds of decorated floats, guided walks in the hills and a Ghosts and Ghouls adventure, the latter reflecting the fact that having at least one ghost is mandatory for highland castles.
In addition to all this, visitors staying in cheap hotels in Royal Deeside can enjoy a variety of activities.
Being located in the Cairngorms National Park, the area around Ballater offers plenty of high mountains to climb, such as Lochnagar, Carn an t-Sagairt Mor and the exotically named Leabaidh an Diamh Bhuidhe.
Those who fancy something less strenuous can enjoy a visit to one of the many whisky distilleries in the area.
