A Spot of Golf in Hawaii

A spot of golf in Hawaii Sports fans on holiday in Hawaii in January will be able to make their break even more enjoyable with a trip to the Sony Open golf meeting.

Every January this picturesque leg of the PGA Tour attracts nearly 150 of the world's top golf professionals to the Waialae Country Club on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.

The event is the largest charity occasion in Hawaii and since 1999 has raised over $7 million (£3.4 million) for local not-for-profit organisations.

Last year's meeting was won by Paul Goydos, who ended an 11-year victory drought by shooting a three-under par 67 in the final round to beat Charles Howell III and Englishman Luke Donald, who tied for second.

Past winners of the competition, which offers a top prize of $954,000, have included David Toms, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els.

Golf enthusiasts staying in hotels in Honolulu can catch the Sony Open in Hawaii on the city's Kahala Avenue from January 7th to 13th.
