Al Pacino to Star in New York Outdoor Shakespeare Season

Al Pacino to star in New York outdoor Shakespeare season Demand for cheap hotels in New York looks set to sky-rocket now that it has been confirmed that Al Pacino is to star in a new production of The Merchant of Venice in the city.

The Oscar-winning New Yorker has been named as the big name for the 2010 Shakespeare in the Park season, which will also include open-air performances of The Winter's Tale in the world-famous Central Park.

And, while Pacino's seven-week run doesn't begin until the start of June, tickets, as well as rooms in cheap hotels in New York, are likely to sell out far in advance, with tourists joining both residents of the Big Apple and Hollywood stars in the audience.

The forthcoming series of shows, in which he will take on the role of Shylock, represents the veteran actor's first return to the New York stage for more than seven years.

One of the most popular tourist destinations among visitors enjoying cheap hotel breaks in New York, Central Park covers over one square mile of downtown Manhattan.

As well as open spaces, the park is also home to the Central Park zoo, numerous walking tracks and a wildlife sanctuary.
