Arachnaphilia

Arachnaphilia California has many visitor attractions, but for those who are definitely not squeamish Coe Park hosts the annual Tarantula festival and Fall Barbecue on October 7th.

For those who see the large black and yellow spiders as cute and fluffy wonders of nature, this will be an enjoyable day out as the mating season is marked with presentations, live entertainment and interactive activities such as searching the park for tarantulas.

There is even the chance to hold the spiders, which are gentle creatures that seldom bite humans and are much less poisonous than is commonly believed.

Tickets can be bought in advance for the barbecue which rounds off the day for between $5 and $15 depending on the choice of meal.

Coe Park is 15 miles south of San Jose on Highway 101, with the attraction of the San Francisco bay area nearby and plenty of accommodation, including an abundance of cheap hotels.

San Francisco offers a variety of attractions, from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge to the famous island prison of Alcatraz, as well as vibrant nightlife well known for its liberal social scene.
