Big Summer Planned in the Big Apple

New York's swanky hotels might be expecting even more visitors this summer, as a bumper season of outdoor events hits the city.

Between June and September, Central Park will hold a number of music and theatre events, such as Broadway Under the Stars and the Central Park Summer Stage.

Broadway Under the Stars is a free concert, bringing stage classics and top performers from the world-famous venues outdoors.

The Central Park Summer Stage is perhaps one for younger visitors, featuring live music, including the side-ponytail sporting British female rap artist Lady Sovereign.

Spoken word performances and screenings of short films will also light up this event, for culture vultures, who also might be interested in a series of Shakespeare plays being performed throughout the summer.

The Public Theatre is performing plays such as Macbeth in the park's Delacorte Theatre, so the summer's events will cater for a wide variety of artistic tastes, with parks in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island hosting performances from the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera.

One of New York's longest running, free outdoor events, Celebrate Brooklyn, will also be taking place in Prospect Park, featuring music from a mix of urban artists, which regularly attracts more than 200,000 people.
