California Crawling
Those who like cute and fluffy small animals will be able to indulge themselves with a trip to Coe Park in California, just an hour's drive from San Jose in the San Francisco bay area.
Of course, the cuteness and fluffiness in this case is occasionally lost on some as the adorable animals on display, which simply love to crawl up people's arms, happen to have eight legs.
The Tarantula Festival and Fall Barbecue is held every October and is a great way for the non-squeamish to meet, eat, have fun and discover more about these wonderful arachnids.
Held on October 6th 2007, the published programme of events includes a nature walk spent looking for tarantulas, a barbecue (tickets vary from price between $5 and $15 - £2.50 to £7.50 - depending on the choice of meal) and music by a band appropriately named The Tarantulas.
Best of all, visitors can have their picture taken holding a tarantula, whose toxicity has been greatly overstated.
Nearby San Francisco offers plenty of entertainment and lifestyle attractions, not to mention the spectacular Golden Gate Bridge.
