Carnival Time Comes to Miami

Holidaymakers might not need an excuse to visit Miami, with its beautiful beaches, wonderful weather and natty nightlife.

However, if an excuse was needed, the Miami carnival might offer one, as one of the largest street festivals in the US is set to storm the beach again this year.

Taking place between September 23rd and October 8th, visitors will have plenty of chance to join in the fun, especially if they've booked into one of the city's cheap hotels, saving their budget for partying.

The carnival features many events to excite and amuse over the two weeks, but the Mini-Carnival and Jump Up parade get the ball rolling, with DJs, Mas bands and steel bands, Caribbean food and drinks, and arts and crafts on sale.

Miami Carnival has been an annual event since 1984 and within two years of its creation, it had grown from a small neighbourhood festival to an international event bringing live bands and 'calypsonians' from the islands.

The present carnival, the Caribbean Mardi Gras, has become the largest revenue-producing festival in south Florida and the most popular Carnival in North America, with airline and hotel bookings confirmed in November following October’s event, the organisers claim.
