Discover Some New Art in Washington Square Park
Art enthusiasts staying in cheap hotels in New York will be able to pay a visit to Washington Square Park this year to discover some new work in a scenic setting.
The park's annual outdoor art exhibition will be held for the 158th time this year on the weekends of September 5th to 7th and 12th to 13th.
This twice-yearly show traces its history all the way back to 1931, when artists Jackson Pollock and Willem DeKooning began selling their paintings on the sidewalk to raise some rent money.
Today, the exhibition is a juried show that features submissions by more than 200 artists ranging from young, emerging talents to established individuals.
All sorts of media are represented throughout the display, including watercolour painting, graphics, photography, sculpture and metalwork.
New York visitors who are planning to expand their artistic horizons can choose from a number of institutions to visit during their trip, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim.
