Fly Me to the Moon

Fly me to the Moon Visitors heading to New England will be able to experience a bit of old China in August, when Boston's Chinatown celebrates the August Moon Festival.

Held on August 19th 2007, the event is held in the enclave in the heart of the city, where traditional rituals and entertainment are mixed with food as an important date in Chinese history - the 1368 overthrow of the Yuan Dynasty - is commemorated.

The culinary variety is wide to say the least, with perhaps the best known delicacy being mooncakes, which mark the event with their flaky, sticky and somewhat tasty presence.

Most importantly, they contain hidden messages, which commemorate the way secret messages were passed around in mooncakes during the successful campaign to overthrow the dynasty.

In addition to the event, Boston has many attractions for visitors staying in cheap hotels.

The city is well known for its strong cultural scene, with a large range of theatres and orchestral music venues, while the strong historical role played in the development of America, from the Boston Tea Party onwards, is commemorated by the Freedom Trail in the Boston National Historical Park.
