Maple Weekend is the time of year when producers open their doors and allow locals and visitors to taste the syrup.
Book a cheap hotel in New York over the weekends of March 20th and the 27th, when the New York State Maple Producers Association will share the taste of their maple syrup.
Producers from all over the state will provide visitors with tastings, pancake breakfasts and tours of traditional methods of making the syrup and more modern equipment, showing its path from tree to table.
The Maple Weekend has been running every year for over a decade and has shown increasing popularity. More than 500 producers take part in the weekend, hoping to get other people to enjoy maple syrup as much as they do.
New York has 1.48 million taps that produce enough sap to make almost 20 per cent of maple syrup made in the US. The state is the third leading producer of maple syrup and the second in the US after Vermont. Canada is the world's largest producer.
