Give Big Respect to the Big Lebowski
It may not be a major blockbuster or a picture infused with meaning and subtext, but cult classic The Big Lebowski is one of those movies that is cherished by a small but dedicated group of film lovers.
Testament to the depth of the affection that many people have for this movie is the fact that every year 'Lebowski fests' are held over the world.
In December, film fans staying in hotels in New York will be able to show their respect for The Big Lebowski when the Cozy Bowl in Queens and North Six in Brooklyn host their festivals dedicated to the movie.
The film concerns a character, Jeffrey Lebowski, or 'the dude', who spends his time bowling and drinking white Russians but is caught up in a crime caper when he is mistaken for someone who shares his name the eponymous Big Lebowski.
Lebowski fests see the film's devotees dressing up like its characters and enjoying unlimited ten-pin bowling.
There is also, of course, a screening of the movie itself.
