They don't normally do anything by half in the Big Apple, but there is one exception, which sprightly visitors in August may be keen on.
Ideal for those who fancy a challenge but don't feel up to the whole thing, the New York City half marathon is held on August 5th, beginning at 07:00 local time to avoid the heat of the day.
New York Road Runners, which runs the event, has stated that the course runs through Manhattan, including Time Square and finishing in the Battery Park area.
It also states that entry for places is by lottery, with a fee for overseas runners being $100 (£50), with a place at the pre-race Pasta Party on August 4th available for $35.
As well as the race, visitors staying in cheap hotels in New York can enjoy a huge range of attractions, from shopping at Macy's to trips up the Statue of Liberty, or a Broadway musical.
There is always plenty to do in the city that never sleeps - although it may be wise to go a little easy on those sore feet.
