Great Portraits on Show in Orlando

Great portraits on show in Orlando Holidaymakers in Orlando will have a memorable show to visit over the coming months as the city plays host to a travelling showcase of striking photographic portraits.

In Focus: National Geographic Greatest Portraits will open at the Orange County Regional History Center this week and run until January 18th 2009.

Created by National Geographic and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, the exhibition brings together a collection of colour and black and white portraits and scenes from around the world.

The images in the showcase were all captured between the early 20th century and the late-1990s and explore issues ranging from social developments to personal turmoil.

Many people staying in cheap hotels in Orlando may recognise the haunting image of a green-eyed Afghan girl that features in the exhibition alongside pictures of tribal leaders, fishermen, blue-collar workers and many other figures.

In January 2009, the Orange County Regional History Center will launch a special exhibition to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.
