Hit the Road for Motor City
The city of Detroit, home of General Motors, has become so famous for its automobile production that it is commonly known as Motor City.
Petrolheads and motor maniacs from around the world will be able to see exactly what this famous city has to offer when it hosts the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) between January 19th and January 27th.
The who's who of vehicle production will be showcasing their latest creations at the event, including Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Cadillac and pretty much any other automaker worth knowing about.
This show is a real part of American history, having taken place since 1907, when it cost just 50 cents to get in.
Ford's famous Model T was the first car to be displayed at the Auto Show and Dwight Eisenhower became the first president to attend the exhibition in 1961. Numerous celebrities have shown their faces at the Detroit show in past years, including Celine Dion, Jay Leno, Kevin Bacon and pop singer Kelis.
More than 75,000 yards of carpet will be laid out for the 2008 event, which is enough to cover the length of 750 American football fields.
Lovers of all things four-wheeled and full of fuel who are staying in cheap hotels in the USA in late January can find the NAIAS at the Cobo Centre on Washington Boulevard, on the bank of the Detroit River.
