James Ensor Exhibition Opening in New York

James Ensor exhibition opening in New York New York's Museum of Modern Art will launch an exhibition this weekend dedicated to the Belgian artist James Ensor.

Travellers staying in cheap hotels in New York will be able to see the display, which features around 120 works by the artist, from June 28th to September 21st.

Ensor lived and worked in Ostend for most of his life, creating work that had a strong influence on 20th century art movements such as surrealism and expressionism.

The exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art presents a thorough exploration of Ensor's work, focusing on his innovative use of light, his penchant for satire and his interest in themes of carnival and performance.

Following its run in New York, the show will move to the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, where it will be based from October this year until February 2010.

Another exhibition currently open at the Museum of Modern Art features a selection of pieces from the David and Peggy Rockefeller collection, including work by Cezanne and Picasso.
