Jocks Away

Jocks away For most visitors to Texas, ten gallon hats and Stetsons might be the expected order of the day, but not in Dallas in early June, when a kilt and sporran would be far more appropriate.

The Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games is held in the suburb of Arlington from June 1st to 3rd 2007, in which tartan treats include caber tossing, sheaf tossing and hammer throwing.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Dallas can also enjoy Scottish music, including bands such as Tullamore and Bad Haggis, a golf tournament, Gaelic language classes and whisky tasting as they join the thousands in this huge celebration of all things Caledonian.

If all that wasn't enough, visitors to Dallas can also enjoy some real American attractions.

The city is home to what the local tourist board proclaims is the largest urban arts district in the country and has a wide range of parks and extensive nightlife.

Visitors interested in history can also visit Dealey Plaza with its grassy knoll, the site of Kenndy's assassination and numerous conspiracy theories.
