Las Vegas Information
Las Vegas didn't even exist at the start of the twentieth century, now it's population is well over a million people. But Las Vegas is geared towards it's visitors over it's residents. All of it's growth is purely down to tourism about 37 million people visit every year. To cope with the demand Las Vegas has 9 of the 10 largest hotels in the world.
Of course they are not just your average hotels, aswell as the obligatory casino that lies at the heart of every hotel. Each hotel competes with the next to out do one another with it's flamboyant showrooms and swimming pools, luxurious restaurants and guest rooms as well as high-tech rollercoaster rides and other attractions.
The various casinos do almost everything they can to lure you in, they want you to gamble, and indeed once you're in it's almost impossible to leave. It's easy to lose trackof time in the window-less and clock free environments.
Las Vegas caters for everyone - if you come looking for the cheapest holiday in America you'll find bargin accommodation rate and bargain buffets, however if you prefer a luxury holiday you've got the finest restaurants, shop at the chic stores, stay in luxury suites and watch world-class entertainment. And the same goes for gambling. Las Vegas has something for the high rollers or the seedy smoky casinos located downtown.
While Las Vegas has certainly changed since the days when the Mob dominated there is still the kitsch and novelty that attracts the tourists, along with a few Elvis impersonators, the important thing to remember - In the words of Steve Wynn, who built the Mirage and Bellagio hotels, "The only way to make money in a casino is to own one". Around 85% of visitors gamble and lose a average of $665 each, however the clever thing about Las Vegas is that it makes certain you'll have such a great time you won't mind losing a bit of money in the process. In fact that's why it's not even called "gambling" anymore, but "gaming".
