Legless in Seattle
Anyone fancying a bit of Germanic culture, with beer, sausages, thigh-slapping Bavarian dancing and people wearing leather shorts and braces should look no further than
Seattle.
The west-coast capital of Washington State hosts its own version of the famous festival in authentic style, when the beer flows and the partying goes on and on.
Known as the Fremont Oktoberfest after the district of Seattle in which it takes place, the event schedule lasts from September 22nd to September 24th 2007 according to the organisers' website, which is a fair bit of drinking time.
The organisers have promised a wide range of fun activities to add a little extra spice to events, including a scavenger hunt and a three-mile fun run.
Just to prove this is America after all, the festival entertainment also includes the Texas Chainsaw Pumpkin Carving Contest, which will of course be left to the sober to avoid a massacre.
Washington has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
