Making Waves in Maui

Making waves in Maui Fans of windsurfing, watersports, or just relaxing on a beach watching other people engage in strenuous activities could find just what they are after on the exotic Hawaiian island of Maui in November.

Every year the Ho'okipa Beach Park near Paia in Maui hosts the Aloha Classic Windsurfing Championships.

The event attracts around 100 international competitors and athletes every year who compete in a number of different categories.

Hawaii's consistent trade winds and large surf make the meeting one of the most popular parts of the windsurfing calendar for media, spectators and competitors.

The Aloha Classic is one of the longest-running wave-sailing events in the world and, since its creation in 1984, has traditionally been the final event of the sport's pro world tour.

Of all the Hawaiian islands, Oahu is the most popular, with the city of Honolulu and its cheap hotels attracting visitors from all over the world, but to truly experience the state of Hawaii it has to be fully explored.
