Met to Host Extensive Turner Retrospective

Met to host extensive Turner retrospective New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art will this year present the first retrospective of the work of JMW Turner to be held in the United States for more than 40 years.

Turner was an English painter and printmaker who played a central role in laying the foundations for Impressionism, one of the most important and influential art movements to have emerged in recent centuries.

People staying in cheap hotels in New York will get a comprehensive look at Turner's work, with around 140 paintings and watercolours included in the show.

The exhibition will feature pieces from a number of collections in Europe and North America.

A range of the artist's interests and media will be represented, including seascapes, topographical views, historical moments and scenes from his imagination.

Another exhibition taking place at New York's Met museum this summer will look at the phenomenon of Pop Art, which was made popular by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol in the 1960s.
