Miami Information

The City of Miami in Southeast Florida is located on the Miami River between the Florida Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. Since it's incorporation in 1896, mainly due to the arrival of the railroad which provided the first fixed link with the rest of the continent, and cleared the way for the twenties property boom. In the Fifties, Miami Beach became a celebrity filled resort area, just as thousands of Cubans fleeing the regime of Fidel Castro began arriving in mainland Miami.

The City of Miami is well known for its diverse culture and ethnicities is the largest municipality in Miami-Dade County. Miami which is known as the the Gateway to Latin America attracts a tremendous amount of foreign born people resulting in a large Latin American population that includes Cubans, Nicaraguans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Puerto Ricans, Argentineans, Ecuadorians, Brazilians, Dominicans, Haitians and Mexicans.

Many of Miami's districts are cities in their own right, each has a backround a character of it's own. Most people head straight to Miami Beach, specifically the South Beach strip, where you will find many of the city's famed Art Deco buildings. Downtown Miami has a few museums but little else of interest for visitors. Little Havana to the west is the place to go for a cuban lunch, while immediately south the spacious boulevards of Coral Gables are as impressive now as they were in the 1920s. Coconut Grove is also well worth a visit as it's home to some of Miami's most popular attractions.
