New Year's Day in Montagu Bay
The biting cold of the British winter is part of the season's character for many people, but for others it's just plain annoying, so what better place for these sensitive souls to celebrate the onset of 2008 than the Bahamas?
And those lucky enough to be staying in a cheap hotel in Nassau, the capital city of the Bahamas, on New Year's Day will have more than the warm weather to keep them happy.
On the first two days of the first month of the year, a colourful sailing regatta sets off from Nassau's luxurious Montagu Bay.
Between 30 and 40 vessels take part in the launch, all from the local area, to compete in three different sailing classes.
The event is a cause for great enthusiasm among locals and also forms a lively and exciting spectacle for visitors.
Nassau is located on New Providence island and is home to the major airport for the Bahamas, which operates daily flights to the UK, Canada, the Caribbean and the US.
