New York Prepares for No 1 Judo Show
People staying in cheap hotels in New York at the beginning of March are in for a feast of all-action competition in the form of the United States' top judo tournament.
The New York Open features participants from more than 30 countries, including Olympic competitors and world champions.
This event will take place at the New York Athletic Club, 180 Central Park South, on March 9th.
Founded in 1868, the club was established to bring structure to the local sporting groups and was responsible for organising the first US championships in boxing, wrestling and outdoor athletics.
Spectators at the judo tournament will be in for a real show, as the athletes taking part will be competing hard for a healthy cash prize.
Participants throw, pin and grapple each other in this energetic combat sport and a group of judges will be assigned the task of deciding who has executed the most impressive and effective moves.
