New York to Host St Patrick's Day Parade
On March 17th those staying in cheap hotels in New York will be able to witness the city's largest street parade.
The St Patrick's Day celebrations will see thousands take to 5th Avenue, many dressed in costumes to mark the event, to mark the saint's day.
Starting with a mass at St Patrick's Cathedral, the event will then take to the street led by the Irish Infantry Division, reports events service whatsonwhen.
According to the official St Patrick's Day Parade website, 2008's celebrations will mark the 247th year that Manhattan has marked the saint's day - with the first march taking place in 1762.
The website also states that the "best viewing spots are toward the north end of the parade route, away from the shopping and work-a-day crowds that throng the sidewalks below 59th Street".
It also advises people to sit on the "upper steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a great view or catching a close-up view of the marchers" at the point that the parade moves on to 86th Street.
However, New York will not be the only city to mark the occasion as Massachusetts and Connecticut will also be staging parades.
