NY Hotels 'best for Business'
The vast array of hotels in New York saw a fall in bookings after 9/11 but is now making a steady recovery, according to latest figures.
There are over 200 hotels in Manhattan, including those for backpackers which cost just a few dollars a night, to those that cost a few thousand dollars a night, reports Forbes.
In 2004, there was a four per cent increase in business and convention travel to the Big Apple, according to a report issued earlier this month by the Travel Association of America, the National Business Travel Association and the Institute of Business Travel.
"Coming into 2005, business travel looked like it would be up 4.5 per cent to five per cent, with key business centres, obviously including New York, outperforming the average," Kevin Mitchell, chairman of the Business Travel Coalition, told the newspaper.
Statistics also reveal that in 2002 and 2003 the busiest days of the week for New York hotels were on Fridays and Saturdays but now they are packed out seven days a week.
Tom Downing, general manager at Trump International, commented that visitors to the city are also staying for longer periods of time and are bringing their families with them.
