NY Visitors Pointed Towards Wine Regions
People staying in cheap hotels in New York over the coming months will be urged to visit the state's wine regions through a new campaign being launched at London Heathrow.
Promotional company I Love New York has teamed up with Virgin Atlantic to launch a wine-tasting initiative at the airline's Heathrow lounge.
Travellers will be able to sample a range of wines for two months from June 22nd.
It is hoped that the scheme will raise awareness of New York's wine-producing regions, such as the Fingerlakes, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.
Lyndsey Sugden, head of marketing for the New York state division of tourism, said there are a number of "superb wines and wine-related opportunities available in the state of New York".
She added: "After California, New York state is the second largest wine producing state in North America and with the popularity of wine tourism growing, this is the obvious market to tap into to create much needed awareness in the UK for New York state and encourage visitors to New York City to change a short city break into much more."
New York is home to some 240 wineries which welcome around three million visitors every year.
