To celebrate the wide biodiversity that exists in these waters, the Alaska Oceans Festival takes place at West Delaney Park Strip in the state capital Anchorage, on June 2nd.

Running from noon local time until 22:00 local time, the festival features music, artists and speakers on the subject of the oceans along with a wealth of seafood and drink.

The event is intended to mix fun with conservation, while understanding Alaska's contribution to the biodiversity of the Pacific Ocean.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Anchorage can also enjoy many other attractions.

The summer brings long daylight hours this far north (61 degrees), while interest in biodiversity can be further indulged with a visit to the Botanical Gardens.

Another attraction worth seeing is the Alaska Native Heritage Centre, which traces the culture and history of the indigenous peoples who have lived in the area since long before European settlers arrived.
