Octoberfest with a Difference

Octoberfest with a difference The city of Boston, Massachusetts is famous historically for its "tea party" in 1773, but on the last Friday of September it will host a beer party instead.

Octoberfest, just like its Bavarian counterpart, actually starts in September, running from the 29th to the 30th.

While it may be a long way from Germany, Boston's festival has a distinct German flavour, with traditional German beer, food and oompah bands.

The festival is run and hosted by the Harpoon brewery, whose own beers will be in plentiful supply, with admission costing $12 (£6.41).

Boston is a large city with plenty of accommodation options, including many cheap hotels.

Other attractions in the city include The Adams historical park, where visitors can pay homage to a family that produced two US presidents, the 5wits tomb, an interactive reproduction of an Egyptian tomb and the Redsox baseball team.

The city can also be used as a base to tour the north-east region of the United States, which includes attractions as diverse as New York, Niagara Falls and the Amish country of Pennsylvania.
