Pearl Jam to Play New York Gig

Pearl Jam to play New York gig American rockers Pearl Jam have announced they will play a special New York show for charity, according to reports.

In a bid to raise money for the Robin Hood organisation, a charity which is attempting to tackle poverty in New York, the band will play at the Beacon Theatre on July 1st.

To qualify for the sought after tickets, fans must make a minimum $100 (£50) donation and will have the opportunity to buy up to six tickets with prices starting at $250 (£125).

Pearl Jam are working on a follow up to their 2006 self-titled album while there is a possibility that some new songs will feature in the Beacon Theatre performance.

Lead guitarist Mike McCready said: "We have about 200 songs to pull from, so we'll do that and maybe do some obscure B-sides. For new stuff, I don't know if we have it refined enough to want to play it in front of an audience yet. We don't want to hack in front of everybody."

Pearl Jam are expected to raise $3 million (£1.5 million) for the Robin Hood oganisation through ticket sales alone.
