Powerful Sculptures in the US

Americans are increasingly embracing the growing phenomenon of kinetic sculpture racing.

Born in the 1960s, when artist Hobart Brown turned his son's tricycle into a mobile sculpture which led to a bet over who could create the most unusual sculpture which could be raced, this unusual event has become popular across the US.

In Baltimore on May 6th this year, locals from across the area will unveil the creations that they have been working on in recent weeks.

Far from being concerned about aerodynamics and generating great amounts of speed, this is one race where the winner is generally decided on the brilliance of the design rather than its ability to move at any great pace.

Back in 1969, when the first race was held, metal sculptor Bob Brown won the event thanks to his ten-foot turtle creation.

Since then more and more people have looked to better his and other contestants' entries with increasingly ludicrous designs.
